This summer I did a complete reverse flush to generate some heat from the core and lately I've noticed, as speed and airflow through the radiator increases, the panel temp gauge drops to zero. At idle it returns to normal. Heat is coming from the core - doesn't appear to be a thermostat problem nor is the fan cycling excessively so I'm wondering if a sensor is involved.

When you say the panel goes to 0, are you refering to the engine temp?

Yes, the coolant temp gauge, but, after a few minutes of standing still, it returns to normal - a little less than halfway up the gauge.

It sounds like a bad temp sending unit. Have you checked to make sure the wiring to it is good?

Should have replaced them both. A few months I did the grey connector so now I'll do the brown. At least I now have a 21mm long socket to do the job.

Let me know if that fixes it. It could be the sensor itself.
