1994 Ranger won't start. Sometimes

I have a 94 ford ranger with about 200,000 miles on it. The darn thing is acting very strangely. I've taken it to the shop a couple of times now and they haven't been able to figure it out.
It will start great, no problem, when it has been sitting for a while. However, if I drive it a short distance (<10 miles), and I try to start it, it will just roll, and roll, and roll. I've never had the problem when I drive far distances (i.E, >25 miles). But then, if I wait after it acts up (sometimes it can be 2 minutes; sometimes it can be two hours) it starts right up. A-N-Y suggestions! Thanks so much!

Well, I am trying to think of it logically.

The only reason I could see that it would always start w/o issue after sitting for awhile, and it takes awhile once the issue arises before it'll start again is. It's getting too much fuel and flooding at those instances.

Have you noticed your fuel pump running even after you've cut the motor off?

No, I have not noticed the fuel pump running after its been turned off. But I haven't been listening for it; I will do that.
A few of my friends that dabble in car maintenance have brought up the possibility of a short and or corroded wires. Do you think there is any validity to those thoughts?

Thanks again.

I asked a friend and they said it could be your ignition switch possibly. Or a relay for your Fp that initiates for start ups only.

Said that some cars have 2 relays, one for start up and one for running. If the initial relay goes bad/out your car won't start or start dependably but once started would run absolutely fine.

Hope that helps.
