I had a newer Ranger and had a problem with a timing advance sensor. This seems to feel like the same issue with this truck. Can I just replace the sensor a see if it fixes the problem? I would take the truck in for repairs but its a min. Charge of $85.00 just to hook it up to the computer and then diagnostic time. The newer ranger was under warranty and it took them a week to find it. I can't afford it right now. Any help appreciated Thanks DHBaldwin

I have been digging and testing engine components and think I have narrowed it down to the CKP sensor or crankshaft position sensor. I think I need to do some more testing to make sure! Ford wants $329.00 for the sensor, but its a little cheaper aftermarket. Any input would be helpful. Thanks.

Yes the CKPS can cause your problems. Without scanner it makes testing a little harder. Disconnect Ohm test 700 to 900 ohms wiggle wires tap sensor if ohms flux or go open faulty. Then place meter on AC lowest range crank you should get a small varying current. If not faulty.
