When you turn the key does anything happen. If you hear a grinding noise, it could be that your starter is bad or has come loose somehow. If nothing happens your starter, solenoid, or ignition switch is out, or if it turns over but won't start, you could have a failed fuel pump.

Suggested Repair

Match the key-on symptom: a grinding noise points to a bad or loose starter; no response points to the starter, solenoid, or ignition switch; cranking without starting points to a failed fuel pump.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a 1995 Ford Mustang V6 says it will not start after a short stop, although the alarm, radio, and lights work and there is a strange noise when trying to start. The expert says a grinding noise may mean a bad or loose starter, no response may mean the starter, solenoid, or ignition switch, and cranking without starting may mean a failed fuel pump.
