I have a '96 Mustang GT and the gas tank recently started leaking. It only leaks when I completely fill up the gas tank. I'd like to know what might be the problem and what I need to do in order to get it fixed and the possible cost. Also, is this car okay to drive? Thanks

Sorry have to say this, Don't fill it all the way..
Seriously, where is it leaking? (on the tank or the goose neck?)

It isn't leaking from the tank itself. The leak seems to be coming from here the filler tube meets the gas tank. Thanks.

Take the rubber gooseneck off the tank and see if there any cracks or corrosion around the weld. Also check to see if the hose is cracked.

Suggested Repair

Do not fill the tank completely until the leak is fixed. Remove the rubber filler gooseneck and inspect the hose for cracks, and check the tank weld area where the filler meets the tank for cracks or corrosion. Replace a cracked hose or repair corrosion or weld damage as found.

Conversation Summary

A 1996 Ford Mustang GT leaks fuel only when the tank is completely filled. The owner said the leak is at the filler tube where it meets the tank, not from the tank body. The expert advised not filling it all the way and removing the rubber gooseneck to check the hose for cracks and the weld area for cracks or corrosion.
