Hello, I have a 2002 Ford Ranger Edge 3.0L w/ automatic transmisison. There are a few things wrong with the vehicle but I'm almost sure they all tie into the same thing. I get around 12 miles to the gallon and I'm pretty sure that's not right. The engine often seems underpowered and requires around 2500-3000 rpm's to keep up with traffic. However, this changes day by day. There is also pinging when the engine is under load such as climbing a hill or accelerating in second gear. I'v been struggling with this for months and have replaced many things including all oxygen sensors. The engine seems to run better after I clean some carbon out of it by getting on the throttle. However, the mpg never really gets better. It has been as low as 8 mpg before. Any help or suggestions? They would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Run some injector cleaner thru a couple of tanks of gas. I would also take a good look at the knock sensor. Check the connection and the sensor it self. They also must be installed with the correct torque to function properly.

Any codes?
