Do a wet/dry compression test to rule out a bad valve. Lower than 80 it's a valve and wont change wet or dry.

Suggested Repair

Perform a wet and dry compression test to rule out a bad valve. If compression is below 80 and does not change wet or dry, the valve is the likely cause.

Conversation Summary

A 1997 Ford F-150 with 160,000 miles misses at idle and hesitates when taking off, and the miss can be felt at the exhaust. The expert recommended a wet and dry compression test to check for a bad valve. Other users disagreed and suggested checking the oxygen sensor, especially the passenger-side sensor.
