My truck started to cut out the other day and then it died. It started and run fine and then did it again after a few miles. It did not throw any codes and did this until I got home. I changed the fuel filter and it was really dirty but it still would not start every time. I changed the fuel pump, put in some heat and it still does it. When it starts it does not miss and runs better than it ever has but as soon as I shut it off it won't hit a lick! I drove it 25 miles to work yesterday and it did fine and I shut it off when I got there and it would not start. It turns over but it just acts like the fuel pump is not working. Could it be the relay or a position sensor?

First, try switching the EEC relay with one in the relay block with another one with the same part number. See if that makes any difference.

Let me know.

I changed the relays around and it started. I shut it off and then it would not start. That is one of the problems, not knowing what is affecting the starting or if it is just its time to start. It still wont start.

I changed them around again and it started. I shut it off and it started again then it started to cut out. I gave it some gas and it responded by bogging down and dying. Now it wont start.

I think you either have a bad connection at the relay, or the fuel pump is going bad. Have you checked the fuel pump pressure?

Same exact problem.

1999 F-150 Flareside, 90,000 mi. Truck ran best it ever did, parked it, next time wouldn't start. Waited about a half hour. Started. Drove it home, was fine. Drove it to the liquor store out of frustration. Got booze. Went to start it and truck said "forget about it."

Drank the booze. Half hour later, truck and me started.

Now, after doing that a few times, it doesn't start anymore. It turns over, but does not start. Switched EEC relay. Nothing. Got spark. Got fuel at Schrader. Got a Honda Civic. But I want my truck to start!

Are you getting a hot blue spark? Also, even though you have fuel pressure, have you checked to make sure it is within specs?

Spark is good. Fuel pressure looks weak, although I haven't checked it formally against what is in the service manual. I think it may be the pump. Not sure though.

I switched out the 301 relay, and checked all fuses.

Check the fuel pump pressure. If you need directions, let me know. Also, if the pressure is good, make sure the injectors are working. If you have fuel and spark, it has to run unless timing is out or it has very low compression.

That will do it. I'm glad you got it fixed. Let us know if you have questions in the future, and take care.
