I HAVE A 98 FORD F-150 4.2L. I REBUILT THE ENGINE A YEAR AGO AND REPLACED EVERYTHING INSIDE AND ALL THE SENSORS. A YEAR LATER NOW WHEN IT GETS HOT WHILE IN GEAR I LOSE OIL PRESSURE AND IT STARTS MAKING A KNOKING NOISE PUT IT IN PARK IT STOPS. I EPLACED THE KNOCK SENSOR, OIL PUMP, CHANGED OIL, TORQUE CONVERTER, THIS WEEKEND. IT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. A YEAR AGO I REBUILT THE MOTOR AND REPLACED ALL RODS, PISTONS, MAIN BEARINGS, ROD BEARINGS, HAD HEADS WORKED WITH ALL NEW VALVES, HAD BLOCK WORKED, NEW CAM, CRANK,
ANY HELP WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL.

Hi:
First, have the oil pressure checked with a gauge. It just screws in where your sending unit is. If the pressure is low on the gauge, remove the oil pan and check the pick up tube / screen to make sure it's clean and tight. If it is, you will need to plastigage the mains and rod bearings to make sure they are with in the tolerance recommend by the manufacturer. If everything is good, my guess is the oil pump is bad.
