Hey I just bought this 89' with 63,700 original miles, (an older man drove it in town only). Pretty straight truck, but it wasn't driven for about 8 months prior to me buying. Just sat in a garage. So when its warm or when I have been driving it that day. It starts. But its not a daily driver for me, and when it sets for a few days. It starts like a truck that has doesn't have fuel injection would. After I finally get it started and warmed up it runs okay, just doesn't seem to be getting fuel cleanly. If that makes sinse.
It has the dual tanks, I changed the fuel filters, and am leary of changing a fuel pump, if I just have a oxygen sensor problem. Seems like this should be simple. But I am not finding a solution? Any advice on this?

Thanks.

You should check the fuel pump pressure to see if that is where the problem is coming from. Also, there is an ambient temp sensor that tells the computer the outside temp and the coolant temp. From that, the computer tells the fuel injection how rich to make the fuel mixture. There is a chance that it could be bad.

Has the check engine light come on?

Yes, kind of comes on and off. Sometimes it stays on for a while. Sometimes not at all. I didn't know about the temp guide. But everybody told me to start with the fuel filter and work up from there. Someone told me try and turn the key for a minute and see if that helped it start. A little. Thing is, until it is warmed up, the engine lunges. Doesn't idle true.

Thanks, I will check into the fuel pump pressure and the ambient temp sensor. Frustrating.

If the check engine light has been on, take the car to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer for trouble codes. Most will do it for free and it will help us identify where the problem is coming from.

Let me know what you find.
