P1400 error code - What does it mean?

2002 Ford Explorer 4x4 - 113,000 miles - V8 (4.6L?) - Towing package.

The "Service Engine" light has been on for some time. It came on when towing our small 15' Travel Trailer.

The error code is "P1400 Differential Pressure Feedback EGR Circuit Low Input." Can someone translate that to layman speak?

I do not trust our local Ford Dealership having been ripped off by them in the past. Before I take the car anyplace I want to know what the issue is.

Thanks for your help.

On these engines the EGR position sensor has hot exhaust gases flow into it thru 2 small hosses off the exaust manifold, it may be melted a bit.

Merlin2021 -

Thanks for the reply. So does that mean the EGR Position Sensor should be replaced? What about the EGR thingy?

Thanks again.

You will need to inspect both, see if the EGR pintle moves freely in and out, youll need a vacuum pump for that, and physically inspect the position sensor, and the rubber hoses for melting or any damage.
