I have a 1997 Ford Explorer all wheel drive, V8 Eddie Bauer edition with 95,000 miles. The ABS indicator light came on and the dealer told me it needs an ABS control module and a hydraulic modulator that would cost me $2,000 to repair. The car isn't worth much more than that so I'm hesitant to spend the money to get it fixed, especially since I don't notice anything wrong -- my brakes work fine. I don't put a lot of miles on the car each year and am planning to get another smaller car in the next year or and keep the Explorer for when I need a larger vehicle.
An independent mechanic said that it isn't imperative to get this fixed, especially since I live in a warm climate and would only need to be concerned during infrequent inclement weather that may cause sudden braking conditions.
Is this true? I'm so confused! ?
