I have a 1993 Ford Explorer, 115000 miles. Every time I start the car I have to let it sit for about 5-10 minutes before the engine will run normal. If I dont I cant accelerate. The engine doesnt try to die just the RPMs wont rise. It does this in park neutral and drive so its not the tranny. Once it does work if I am going down the road all of a sudden the rpm drop back to idle. I never took my foot off the gas and even if I push harder it still stays at idle. Then after a few seconds it will start working again. Every now and then the service engine light comes on. Codes are left and right O2 sensors are running lean. I replaced fuel pump, strainer and filter no help. I have run out of ideas besides fuel pressure regulator and injecters. Please help

I checked the fuel pressure and it is normal so the problem doesnt seem to be in the fuel system.

Sounds like you are getting unmetered air into the engine. Most times cleaning the mass airflow sensor will help. Spray the business end off with contact cleaner, let it dry, and go for a test drive. Also check for vacuum leaks.

Lastly a faulty throttle position sensor. Check it or have it tested.

Good luck and let us know. :)
