Hi there - I recently noticed some fresh oil on the garage floor which after some investigation, appears to be coming from the rear diff housing. This happened co-incidently after I parked on a very steep hill earlier that day and noticed it was a little hard moving out of park into drive - could this be related? Also, is it often a gasket leak that is easily repaired or is it a big job? (I don't pretend to be a mechanic). I have not noticed any drive shaft noise and everything appears normal whilst driving - should I take the vehicle to a mechanic immediately?

Thanks for taking my quetion

Hi there,

if you are not experienced with diff repairs i would take it to a mechanic to have the leak evaluated and get a quote. If it is leaking from the diff to housing gasket this is an involved repair, if it is from the pinion seal, (where the tail shaft bolts up) this is not as complex.
