My explorer wouldn't start for two weeks, and I replaced the pcm with one from a 1997, mine is a 98 equipped with pats. It started, but runs poor. The replacement pcm, same that was in the truck came in, but after putting it in, it didn't start again, will this problem be fixed when I get it flashed and reprogrammed?

It should be fine after having it reflashed. As far as your vehicle, make sure you get a PCM with the exact same part number as the old one or you will end up with several different problems.

I got the exact same one that was in there before, f87f-12a650-bjb, however when I called the dealer, they did a vin search and said the part number was f8pz-12a650-dja, I can't find any by that part number. Is it possible that is just a dealer number, or could the pcm have been the wrong one all along? Also, I read that the truck will not even crank when one not married to the pats and key is installed, is that true?

It should crank but not start. I think you have the wrong computer for your vehicle.
