Check engine lights can illuminate for almost ANY little issue on newer vehicles these days. Most of the time, it isn't even a cause for concern because the component that is setting off the light is sometimes not even necessary. You might want to ask the mechanic why exactly you need the computer replaced. If the vehicle was/is running and starting fine then the computer is more than likely in good working condition.
A bad BCM (body control module) will usually result in a no start situation. It will fail to send signals necessary for the vehicle to start and/or stay idling.
