My car all of a sudden would not start. I had a quater tank of gas so I thought maybe thats it. I put gas in it. It now has half tank still the car would not start. I had the guy that sold it to me check it out he tapped on the fuel pump on the bottom, then it started. He then left so I tried starting the car again it would not start I tapped the bottom of the fuel pump like he did no luck. Would I need a new fuel pump or is the filter clogged. The car ran perfect just before all of this. I greatly appreciate the help.

Sounds to me that you have a short in the fuel pump, do you hear the pump turn on when the key is turned to on or only when the pump is tapped?
