I have a 1997 Explorer 4 liter SOHC and a 92 Explorer with a 4 liter sohc. How interchangeable are the parts? What if I wanted to deop the 92 engine into the 97, would it work if I made some frankensteinien hybrid of the two engines?

The 92 explorer is a VIN X. In 1997 there are 2 types of 4.0L V6 engines in the explorer the VIN X. And the VIN E. If your 97 is a VIN X then it will be straight swap's?. The eigth digit in the VIN # will tell you which your 97 is?

We have a lot of information at our finger tips, unfortunately, engine swap is not part of it. The basic engine swap should not be a problem. You may have to change some of the "bolt-ons" like intake and exhaust, oil pan and engine mounts. Your local salvage will have access to a complete interchange system. They can tell you for sure. Hope this helps.
