My quetion is this, I have over 200000 miles on my truck, and I believe we only change the transmission fluid once. Would it be wise to have it flushed. After talking to a one auto mechanic he recommended that I don't, but to buy some Lucas tranmission cleaner, and hope the best?

Not sure what to do? I don't have alot of money to spend.

Is the present fluid burnt and really dirty? If it is, don't change it. If you already have a slight slip, it will get worse. What happens is this. The old fluid contains dirt, clutch material. When you change it with new, there is a detergent in the fluid that cleans things. As a result, the trans starts slipping more. If you got 200K out of the trans, it may just be time for an overhaul if it is slipping.

Let me know if you have other questions.
