Sluggish, bad acceleration and now wont start

My ford escort station wagon '95 (180k miles) has been really sluggish lately and not accelerating at all. Well a little bit if I floor it for a few seconds.
and then yesterday I couldnt even turn it on
i think its the engine, but want a second opinion. I dont have a lot of money for repairs. So any advice would be great

Tune up /fuel pressure /low compression
Any mechanical problem in the engine to make u believe its no good(noise>>>>)

Ok, so there is no noise, and I checked the fuel pressure- fine.
I will see about the low compress
ion and a tuneup
