There in a backup lamp switch on the transmission that could be the problem if both the reverse lights dont work

Check under the hood for the power distribution box. This box has more fuses and the problem might be in there.
Does your flasher work? They are on the same circuit.
If the flashers work, then it might be the backup lamp switch that "littlebigbronco" mentioned. That is the only other device in the circuit.

There may be a tab attached to the shifter linkage that pushes a switch to turn on the reverse lights, have you run over anything lately, a snow pile or anything? I had an 87 Taurus 4cyl 5 spd, I ran over a chunk of ice and bent the little tab. It will be under the car on the trans, follow the shifter arms. Something to check
