Tell me exactly what speed you shift gears and what speed you normally drive in 3rd, 4th and 5th.

You need to take it back and have it checked. The jerk may be in the valve body of the tranny. Good luck

Suggested Repair

Return the Escort to the transmission shop for inspection. The intermittent jerk around 30 mph may be in the transmission valve body.

Conversation Summary

A 1998 Ford Escort automatic jerks around 25-30 mph after a transmission rebuild and new fuel filter, fuel pump, spark plugs, and wires, but runs fine at higher speeds. Shifting is otherwise normal and the jerk is intermittent. The expert advised taking it back for inspection because the jerk may be in the transmission valve body.
