It is adjustable and located in the top area of the clutch area. It is not a limit switch but a safety switch so it cannot be started in gear. Easy to replace if you are 3' tall and have 2" diameter arms.

Is the "clutch area" you mentioned near the top of the clutch pedal area or is the safety switch under the hood at the rear of the engine.
Thanks.

Suggested Repair

Inspect and adjust the clutch safety switch under the dash on top of the clutch pedal assembly. Replace it if adjustment does not restore reliable starting when the clutch is depressed.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a 1994 Ford Escort with 148,000 miles sometimes must press the clutch two or three times before the engine will start and asked whether to replace the clutch limit switch and where it is. The expert identified it as an adjustable clutch safety switch that prevents starting in gear, located under the dash on top of the clutch pedal assembly, and noted that it is replaceable but access is tight.
