Transmission problem
1998 Ford Escort 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 160k miles

ok so my car was driving weird for a while. It would take a little while for it to shift into gear. It seemed like it was like that in the morning but sometimes itd drive fine and sometimes it would just take a little bit to warm up I guess. So one day im driving and I go around this u turn and my car went like 30 feet then just wouldnt go above 20mph. It wouldnt go in reverse and it wouldnt go forward. I get to the side of the road and it would drive in reverse or drive but wouldnt reverse. So then I wait for my bf to come and it just starts working again. He drives it like 10 min down the road then it stops when he trys to turn into the gas station. He says the trans is shot but I just wana make sure and get a few other opinions on what I should do. If I should jut junk it or whats my best option.

I agree there is a transmission problem. I would have a transmission shop look at the vehicle and plug it into their diagnostic test equipment . Sounds like you may be have a pressure loss inside the trans. A rebuild of the trans will be less costly than a new car !
