The ignition control module is an internal feature of the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and is no longer a separate component. Here is th PCM location. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

I can't find the ing. Module. My repair book says that 1996 and above have the module in the pcm. The part stores show a seperate module for this year. 1995 show it over right frnder behind the fuse box. On my car I cant find it anywhere. Where is it located?

Thanks Adam in Oklahoma!

DISTRIBUTOR IGNITION (DI)
DI system uses an ignition control module (located on left strut tower), Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor and PCM to regulate ignition timing. Piston position and engine RPM are monitored by CKP sensor and Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor.
The CKP sensor creates 4 evenly spaced signal pulses as projections of the crankshaft pulley pass by it. The signal is used to trigger ignition coil. The CKP sensor also supplies the PCM with information for engine RPM and injector timing.
The CMP sensor creates one signal pulse per distributor revolution as the inner slot of the disc passes through a photo-transistor. This signal is sent to the PCM to identify cylinder No. 1 TDC (compression stroke) for calculation of injection timing.

Any help on these matters are greatly appreciated!

So its a 1993 Ford Escort LX 5 Speed Manual.

When on the highway crusing at about 65-70 mph in final (5th) gear, it runs fine for about 2 minutes just crusing along, then it will start to sound like its starving for fuel all of the sudden and start hopping, over and over again, until you floor the pedal, in which case straitens out the hopping, but it still takes anywhere from 10-20 seconds to stop starving for fuel with the pedal floored.

Secondly, the other day I went to back out of my driveway, and hadnt taken my foot off the cluth at all, and the car began to back out of the driveway all by itself as if the cluth was only about half way depressed. In reality it was to the floor.

The funny thing about it all is the car runs fine in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear, but it hops in 5th, and winds like crazy in reverse.

Lastly, this kind of relates to the way it backed up in reverse with the cluth down to the floor, I think, but sometimes when I park in a parking spot, go inside of a store or whatnot, and come back out, I get in and start it up, and it wont want to come out of the gear I had it parked in, wheter it be 1st gear or reverse, and it acts like its wanting to pull, yet the cluth is to the floor.

One quick thing I wanted to add, is that I bought a Sunpro Super Tach II, to install on the escort, because whats the point in having a 5-speed with no rpm guage, thats crap, Ford did'nt add one on the Escorts around that year, which im sure you know. My question here is how do I install it, (What Wires Do I Soder and where are they located).

I read the directions that came with the tach, but the wire they specify to control the rpms on the tach (to move the needle), is (so they say) on the ignition control module for the 1993 Ford Escort, and the color they specify is NOT on the ignition control module. I went to there website and they say that on most fords you have to go for the (certian colored) wire on the engine computer rather then the ignition control module. I also need to know what wire for the backlight (in the dash somewhere), and of course, where would be best for the Positive 12V wire, and the Ground.

Once again, if you can help me with even one of these problems, it is GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.

Aaaaaah!

I've already taken the car to two mechanics and they say they can't find anything wrong, and the last one I took it to left the gas line off and I was driving home stuck in traffic for the fair with gas spewing all over my engine constantly, some people could have died cause' of that, it was highly F'ed up.

I'm begging anyone that knows what the heck they are talking about to tell me whats wrong.

Alright my car wont start at all doesnt click doesnt turn over nothing. Tho there is power everything else works electrically tried to batteries fully charged nothing. Took out the starter(big waste of time) had it checked it was fine. I talked to someone recently who said it was probably the ballast resistor. But even if it was I cant find the ignition module was wondering if any1 thought that could be the problem, and where its located I got one of those car repair manuals for it but it only shows where the newer model escorts ignition module is located any help would be greatly appreciated

Screwed on at the base of the distributor, wiring harness plugs into it! 5.5mm screws I think!

Yes just as you stated, thank you!

Where do I find a deep well socket thin enough to fit in the module holes to unbolt and rebolt the module?

Thanks, I found one.

O.K. The ignition module is new, now I realize the engine is not turning. Starter is running, or at least it sounds like it, timimg belt is not broke, but cam doesn't turn, and neither does the pulleys to the crank etc. When I turn crank pulley by hand I can hear compression and see lifters rising. Could it be that the starter is running but not turning flywheel? Or could it be something more major like broken Crank? HELP!

Sounds like the bendix drive on the starter, replace either the drive, or the entire starter. Check flex plate teeth.
