I recently changed the ignition module on my 84 escort. It has 78,000 miles on the 1.6 engine.

After changing the module the tach went crazy jumping up and down while driving down the road. When the car is idling it is ok. Also while driving it seem to act like it is missing badly. There is no power when trying to make a hill and it stalls out.

I don't know much history about the car since I just purchased it awhile back.

Did you remove the distributor when you installed the TFI? How did the car run b4 you did the repair?
It seems like you may not have the timming right! Pull the distributor out and move 1 tooth back or 1 tooth forward. If you have a timming light check the timming first. My guess is it's way off!

No I didn't pull the distributor. The car was running great before the module on the side of the distributor went out went out. The day it went out it just shut off and wouldn't start again. When I got the new one the guy at Advanced Auto tested it to make sure it was bad. Is it possible that the pick up coil could have went bad also?

The pickup coil on these were known for falling apart due to age and heat especially the black colored ones. Being that this started after the module was replaced and it effects the tach, it is most likely the pickup coil because it was disturbed when you changed the module as the module plugs directly into it.
