2008 Ford Contour Battery Light

Over the past 8 years the battery light comes on and off for no reason. We have hooked up a volt meter to the battery and all readings are normal, Our repair shop recommended replacing the alternator, it might be sensor in the alternator causing the problems. I don't know the battery light comes on at sporadic times, and after 8 years, I am on my second battey

You've been having this problems for 8yrs but the car is only 2yrs old-Verify the year and get back-

I'm guessing this vehicle's field generation of the alternator is being controlled by the computer.
