My '99 Contour SE V6 has 99,000 miles, runs great, but has been leaking oil recently. I was told to have the oil pan gasket replaced, did so and it still leaks. I have now been told the "main seal" may be bad. It is a slow leak but I need to get it fixed asap. If there are any characteristics of the car due to age/rust (it is from NY) any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there,

if you have a leak from the rear of the engine and you have had the sump done, it is a fair chance that the rear main is leaking. I would give the engine a good wash down and take it for a drive, Have a good look around the rear of the engine, also the rocker covers just make sure that there are no higher leaks running down. Dom this first.
