I have a 1986 Ford Bronco XLT. Its a V8 302EFI with 174XXX miles on it.
Heres what happened.I got the truck and it ran good but the valve cover gaskets were gone.I put a half tank of gas in and parked it in the driveway for about 4wks while I went out of town. Got back and immediately replaced the valve cover gaskets. When I went to start up the truck it would crank but wouldnt catch and idle. It took about 10-15 tries cranking to get it started but when it started, it would not idle, just die out. Then after another couple of times cranking it would start again and only stay running with the pedal pressed to idle the engine above 2000RPM.I replaced the plug wires, rotor, fuel filter, air filter, battery, starter relay and starter itself. When I was changing the fuel filter, the gas that came out didnt smell like normal gas. Could this be bad gas causing my problem? I cant find any vaccum leaks and the engine computer gives me no faults. All clear. Do you have ANY clues as to what might be the problem?

If you constantly put only 1/2 tank in, then there could be water in the gas, fill it up once in a while to avoid condensation build up in the tank. Only option now is drain tank and refill with good gas, if you suspect water!
