Saturday went to start the truck and you could hear the fuel pump and it turned over but it would not start. We towed it to Pepboys who state they put it on two diagnostic machines that could not read, scraped the rotor and adjusted idol. NOW it starts, but as we drove it home it hesitated severly almost losing power, lots of smoke, and the check engine light is on.? They said our transmission is slipping badly but it had not been prior to being towed there, and it never had all this exhaust smoke black to white. Have we had our truck ruined? Or is it possible that this is a fuel pump/pressure/sensor issue as one young mechanic was trying to explain to us. SO SAD TODAY!

Hi jgates100460, Welcome to 2carpros and TY for the donation.

What you need to do here is have the computer rescanned this is your starting point of finding out what's going on within the engine management and comeback with the code/s so that we continue to assist with this problem.

Black smoke indicates the engine is burning more fuel than air-rich mixture the following can cause your problem.

1. Excessive fuel pressure can be cause by restricted fuel return line or defective fuel pressure regulator.
2. Defective Oxygen Sensors.
3. Leaking injectors and fuel pressure regulator.
4. Coolant temperature sensor out of calibration.
5. Restricted air intake system.
