I have a 88 Ford Bronco II that will not go over 55 mph. It is backfiring and stutters when in lower gears. I have to get it up to 55mph in 3rd gear then when I switch to 4th if I'm not on a flat plain I start loosing speed even though I have the gas pedal to the floor. Recently I had to change the vacuum brake booster. When I removed the old one gasoline came pouring out of it. I looked inside of it yesterday and it is full again. I have changed the fuel pressure regulator, the pcv valve, the fuel filter, the air filter and the spark plugs. I also took the catalytic convertor off to see if that would make any kind of difference and it didn't, it just made the truck much louder. (I immediately put it back on) What would be the next part I should change?

Hi
Seems your injectors are at fault or ECM. Does truch idle? Check the white wires to injectors, if you can get a noid light that would help. Want to see if white wires are staying grounded all the time. Where plugs fuel fouled? Exhaust black?
Let me know
Thanks for donate

The truck idles great.
The driver side of the engine spark plugs smelled like fuel but were not soaked in fuel. The passenger side of the engine spark plugs however, had oil on them. Obviously my "o"rings are going bad on that side and allowing oil to seep in around the spark plugs but the exhaust is not black. After all the parts were changed the exhaust actually got better. I will try and check the white wires.

T get fuel into booster must be running very rich to pull that much fuel out of manifold. Disconnect vacuum hose a cap off. See if engine stays running
