Carborator overloads, black smoke, spits and sputters, and then just shuts off. Motor running fine.

Check to make sure the float is working correctly, not leaking and sinking in the fuel and not shutting off the fuel inlet. If the float is ok, make sure the needle and seat are in good condition and stopping the fuel from coming into the carb.
