Engine sounding "whomp, whomp, whomp" in regular cycle. Really noticable when giving gas. Replaced air filter, O2sensor with no change. No drips on pavement; oil is normal consistenticy on dipstick; not fuel filter (no buzzing, unless its changing engine talk, never whomped when fuel filter goes out); not muffler (not loud). Everytime something happens, we hope this an affordable/home fix; or is it time to junk it?

Yes, was an easy fix, but horribly hard to diagnose. Cuz the car store only had long spark plugs wires, I put them on. Over time, the 6 wire (always the hardest one to get to), rubbed against the exhaust manifold and the sheathing wore away and caused the plug wire to short out(the whomping). Occasionally, there was this loud popping when it shorted, too. Right now, the exposed wire is wrapped with electrical tape, pulled upwards and secured with a cable tie. When the weather gets warm enough to work outside, I was replacing that wire and the plug.
Hope this helps.
