My water pump went out and I overheated. Since then it cranks but won't turn over. I replaced water pump, spark plugs because there was oil checked timing. It started up 2 times drove it around the block and now it's doing the same thing. I try to start but it drains my battery. I need help.

Hi,

Is it possible for you to record the engine cranking so I can hear what it's doing?

As far as a crank no start condition, there are several things that can cause it to happen. First, take a look through this link. It reviews the most common causes of a crank no start.

Now, for an engine to run, it needs fuel, spark, the correct ignition/engine timing, and engine compression. Since the vehicle was overheated, compression has me a bit concerned. That's why I requested you to record it cranking so I could hear it.

A simple thing to try is this. See if the engine starts for a couple of seconds and then stalls using starting fluid. If it does, then we know it is a fuel-related issue. If it doesn't, then it is likely ignition, timing, or compression.

If you want, see if there are any diagnostic trouble codes stored that may help. This has an OBD 1 system that doesn't require a scan tool for retrieval. Here is a link explaining how it's done:

Try that and let me know what you find.

Take care,

Joe
