Hi, I'm hoping you could give me the motor parameters so that I can compare them with what I have so I can eliminate and get some parameters out of the way and get to the root problem. Thanks

Hi,

I'm not sure what you are looking for. Is there something in particular you are dealing with? If I can get them, I would be happy to help.

Let me know.

Well, my wagon fell on her face today as I started to pass another car for just a split second! Felt you know when someone is snoring really freaking loud with their mouth open and someone takes a straw and puts one of those plastic rubber bbs in it and shoots them in the back of their throat. They gasp really quick like. Like that. Also, the other day sitting in the drive through in part she almost quite running shot back to life idling high for a couple seconds then leveled out. No codes she didn't lurch forward just started to fall out then caught herself. I was going to compare parameters in air/fuel and corresponding sensors to start with.

Hi,

As far as air/fuel mixtures, in a perfect world, the common target ratio for gasoline engines is around 14.7 parts air to 1 part fuel. If you have a live data scan tool, we can determine the fuel related issues using information which includes the short term fuel trims, oxygen sensor voltages and so on. Some scanners can identify the air fuel mixture.

Let me know if you have one and if the problem happens when the engine is warm. If that is the case, we may have a crankshaft position sensor in the process of failing. Additionally, make sure the engine coolant temp sensor is sending the proper signal. The easiest way is to check it cold. Check it before starting and the signal should be very close to the ambient temperature.

Let me know.

I just 2 weeks ago replaced both of the cam/crank position sensors with NGK sensors. No problems starting and it doesn't do it when cold. Does idle a little rough. Are the 2 ambient sensors attached to the header panel? If not, what are these for?

Hi,

The engine coolant temp sensor on the 5.7L engine is located under the air conditioning compressor. It is installed into a water jacket at the front of the cylinder block.

I attached a pic below showing the location. Note, the compressor mounting bolts need removed, but you don't have to remove any hoses.

Let me know.

Joe

Don't have to remove compressor. I replaced that a little while back. What are the 2 sensors on the header on both sides of the radiator? My ambient temperature was 34 c. It was still a little warm but sit for 4 hours after I got back from doctors appt.

Hi,

I believe you are referring to the ambient air temperature sensor. I attached a pic below. Is that what the sensor you are referring to looks like?

Let me know.

Hi,

Wow, you really have this taken apart. LOL As far as the sensors are concerned, they appear to be the impact sensors for the passive restraint system. I attached a pic below. Is that what you have? Also, can you read a part number on the sensors you have? That way, I can confirm it for you.

Let me know.

Joe

Yes, that is it. Every pic I see doesn't show 2 sensors upfront, just shows one near the cab! These wouldn't have any impact on air/fuel, would they? I also have pics of my live data. Can you compare them with manufactures data on a 5.7 hemi?

Reading through this you say that you can be driving along, and it just shut down. Check the O2 sensor harness where it comes up over the rear of the block. Had an almost identical issue a few years ago on an 02 Ram with the 5.7, On it the O2 harness had rubbed partially through and it would trigger the PCM to reset and you would get a 2 second shutdown. Have also seen it with a damaged O2 sensor that was shorting internally. Didn't set any codes but you couldn't drive it reliably for any distance. Didn't catch it until I put a scope on it and set it to capture. Then it showed up.

My o2s are fine you can see from the pics I sent. The b2s2 dosent read though. But it's been that way since I bought the car 4 years ago and don't seem to bother it! I say that because it's not sluggish, accelerates fine and in town I'm getting 15 MPGs hmy 18/19 mpgs! But on live data it shows hrt/air are red on the omi ready I think its called?

The scanner data never showed anything on those either. The glitch happens faster than the scan tool updates. That was why I had to use the scope to record it long term. I think I had one time where the scan tool showed anything abnormal but it didn't set any codes.

So, do you know if the impact sensors would have anything to do with the rough idle? I know they turn gas off if you're in a wreck but was just wondering if maybe?

Nope, impact sensor does 2 things in a wreck, it will turn off the pump and set off the air bags at the same time.

They are suppose to! I had a near head on collision when my rear end locked up on me and at the last second my car turned sideways, and the truck knocked off my front clip right where the sensors are and no bags. Started up my wagon to get it out of the street! Yea thats my lottery winnings! Hey, do you know if I can push my rear tire (top of tire) out more by putting offset bushings on both ends of the control arms or is it better to use adjustable toe arms to pull the bottom in?

Hi,

That would be done via a 4-wheel alignment.

Wow, the differential locked? That had to be a bit scary. LOL

Man, these mothers around here just want to rack ride your car and charge you $200 and after driving back to my house 3 miles I had to turn around and go back because my steering wheel was jacked around 3/4 of the way and was pulling to the left. They told me they would just refund me so there wont be any problems when I finally got them to listen to me I told them I just rebuilt the rear so it probably needs more adjusted then the front but they did nothing. When he looked he said it would cost me $2,500 to align it. Because I needed adjustables all around which is what I installed. I just left! I was just wondering if it would make more sense to push or pull the rear tire to get it proper?

The impact sensors are set up in patterns. A 2005 will be more limited, likely a straight frontal or rear impact and a direct side impact. So, if they hit within a small arc into the front of the truck or into either door the bags go off. A corner collision like you had wouldn't set them off as the vehicle itself absorbed the hit. Now in a newer vehicle with air bags all over it, you would have had multiple bags fire.
Your Magnum has a similar suspension to my Journey. It is a crappy design. All designed to be non-adjustable except for the toe. There used to be offset bushings available but you may have a hard time finding them these days. Check with the outfits that made lowering kits for them, they generally have ways to adjust the camber.

I've got side curtain airbags. My question was, is it better to push the top of the tire out or pull the bottom in?
