I am in need of assistance of an explanation and I hope that someone can help. I have a friend who was rear ended while sitting at a stop light. I have driven the car prior to the accident and the car drove smoothly and it was so quiet you could not tell it was running. My friend does not drive her car often and when she does it is around town.
After the accident she had to go to an appointment that required her to have to take the highway, while driving on the highway, the car began to knock and lose power. She had to pull over and we had to have the cat towed because the car was not drivable.
Prior to the accident, there was never an issue with this type of problem.
The conclusion that we came up with is this happened from being hit, Could you please provide any assistance, as it is greatly appreciated,
Thank you

Hi,
After a rear collision, the only thing that comes to mind is possibly the exhaust system has been kinked and restricted. This would allow low speed operation where exhaust flow is lower,
but when operated at higher speed the exhaust back pressure could choke the engine out. This could be accompanied by noise as well, as there would be serious overcharging of the cylinders occurring. Hope this helps Doc

Thank you much for the quick response as well as your knowledge. That makes sense, as a lady I love cars and if I could afford it I would have a new Lexus every four years. My grandfather had a love of card and I guess I took that after him as well as being a musician.
Again, thank you for putting my mind at ease, as this is not my field of expertise. I knew something was off because the car drove very smoothly prior to her being rear ended and I was surprised at how smooth it was because I am a Toyota pets on.
May you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving as we reflect on being thankful for what we have and the blessing that we have received no matter how big or small.

Also the car is not drivable - it will crank but will not stay running as it knocks really bad. When it was towed from the highway - it has not been drivable because when you start it, the knocking sound is really bad and will not stay running.
Again thank you!
