I have replaced the spark plugs and it was driving fine until it suddenly started to slow down and then cut off on me. I was able to drive it back home but very slowly it would not accelerate. Any idea of what this could be when it cut off on me. It was smoking but not when I got back home it was just hot.

I would first be looking at a blocked exhaust. The back pressure that would build up can have this effect. Do you know where the smoke was coming from? Engine, exhaust under the car? Has the engine been using coolant or oil?

That is not good, considering that the engine was smoking, the noise may be bearing knock. You need to try and get an oil pressure test done, and a compression test as well. If you can get a mechanic to listen to the noise they may be able to tell if it is a bearing type knock. A bearing knock is a very deep knock that will increase with the engine revs, if the engine has overheated and a bearing has failed, the bearing may turn and block any oil access to the shell, This will cause the noise and the engine to slow down as the bearing overheats and starts to lock up the crankshaft. I would try and get a mechanic to listen to the noise before you drive it any further as if it is a bearing the engine may already be beyond economical repair.

Any way I can fix it myself? Is it possibly a blown head gasket?

We first need to do some diagnosis work to determine the exact problem. Let me know if you can do the oil pressure test and the compression. Please advise the readings for both, oil pressure needs to be checked cold idle, hot idle and hot 1,500 rpm's and compression test done wet and dry, dry is a normal test of each cylinder and wet is with a small amount of oil about a teaspoon or so just enough to seal the top ring land. If the cylinder shows a low compression with a dry test and the compression increases with a wet test, you have a ring problem. If no real increase is noticed you will have a valve or gasket problem, but the noise you mention is the real concern, an oil pressure test will help identify a problem here.
