I used an uncoded key to unlock driver side door, the SES light and key icon lit up. It triggered the following. 1. It will not shift out of park even when I depress the brakes, but will shift if I depress the override button in the slit next to the shift gear stick. 2. Back up camera disable, no power going to it. 3. Disable the electric power steering, steering wheel will turn but hard to steer. 4. Heater and A/C not turning on. Hook up to a hand held scanner, it pull a U0164 code (lost communication with HVAC control module). Does this mean the computer has to be reset or re-flashed at a dealer? Any suggestions would help. I activated the self diagnostic check but still the same. Disconnect the battery for forty eight hours and only turn the key icon off.

U0164 means the ECM cannot talk to the dash or the AC amplifier. It is why all of the other problems are there as the CAN bus is down. Using the wrong key shouldn't have triggered that. Using the wrong key should only activate the key light and not allow the vehicle to start. I would say you have a different issue that will require a dealer level tool to talk to the ECM and determine if it has failed or if another component has failed and stopped the CAN signal.

Ive talked with the dealer and they advise to bring it in to reflash the computer, so ive loaded it on a dolly and have a 9am appointment with nissan dealer. Thanks for the input, I did a lil research on the hvac, and all pointed it to the CAN bus. Talking with other people, they also did advise the uncoded key should've only triggered the starting, but I only used the uncoded key to unlock the driverside door, and use the good fob key to start the vehicle. Vehicle starts and runs, just the above mention that are disable. Thanks for your input steve, I'll post what dealer advise

Good luck with it, please let us know what they find. It could be a simple broken wire or just a scrambled ECM.
