I press on the gas and the van drops down in speed - jerking me all around - I've changed the fuel pump hoses and filter - yet it still jerks and drops down in speed - as if it is getting no gas.

Has the "Check Engine" light come on? If it has, there is a diagnostic fault code in memory. If not, you might try a new MAP sensor, or inspect its vacuum hose for leaks.
