Do the intake manifold have to be removed totally and if so. How do you remove it?

Yes. That is the only way to get to the rear bank of the engine. Pretty easy to get off. Take off the air tube where it connects to the throttle body, remove all harness conectors to the throttle body, and you will see the bolts that hold it to the center of the engine. Remove those. A little more difficult to explain without a diagram.
