I'm pretty sure the lock mechanism is built into the latch assembly. A common problem is the motor armature breaking loose and spinning freely on the shaft without turning it or the worm gear attached to it. If that's the case, you'll hear it buzzing without moving the lock button.
If it appears the lock button is trying to move, the linkage could be gummed up. Try lubricating the pivots with WD-40 or Mopar MP-50.
If you do indeed need a new mechanism, you should be able to find one in a salvage yard. They usually prefer to sell complete doors to body shops without stripping parts, so look for a door that was damaged on a crash and is not of value as a complete assembly.
