You mean the codes. They are numbers that lead you in a direction of the repair, it never identifies a bad part.

It sounds like you have a missfire going on. I would start with bascis such as plugs, wires and such.

Thanks Roy
Yes the codes are not coming through at all. Could that indicate a faulty computer?
Thanks again

No necessarily. Does the check engine light work? A lot of the little code readers do not read like they should. If you had a bad pcm, then you would have many other symptoms.

Sporadically my 97 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 will make somewhat of a groaning noise from the front end, and sometimes a vibration will accompany it that I can feel through the floor or pedals. Sometimes they occur together and other times either one may occur on their own. As I said, these are sporadic and not continuous, regardless of speed, turning, temperatuce, etc. Any thoughts or ideas as to what it could be? I've been reluctant to take it to a shop because the symptoms aren't constant. Thanks.

Any chance you're feeling a 4 wheel anti-lock brake pump?

The truck doesn't have an anti-lock braking system. I took it in to a mechanic for inspection and they couldn't find anything wrong with it when it was up on the rack and ran it up. Checked U-joints and such. Had it out for a test drive and couldn't get the truck to duplicate the noise or vibration. To me it now seems to be driving rough, though that is hard to describe exactly what I mean. Not saying I blame the shop, just that maybe things are getting worse.

Could have one or more bushings worn out on the engine cradle giving the engine some free play to bounce around.
