This is a 1 owner truck and have started to have problems at startup for a good length of time now. It seems to be progressively getting worse. I recently had the plugs replaced and ran fuel injector cleaner through it also. I changed gas stations. I also had it in the shop to try to have the probelm occur with them and it didnt. Also they found no codes.

These symptoms are sporadic. Sometimes it wont start (its turning over fine). Other times, it will crank but gag and die if I give it gas. After about 1-2 minutes its running fine. I have noticed it missing during this 1-2 minutes also. Cold weaher isnt an issue. Family mechanic says egr valve but I beleive it doesn't have one. Correct me if I am wrong. It doesnt seem to matter if its a cold start or I run into a store and try to start it.

I dont want to start "trying new parts" if I dont have to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Well the truck does have an EGR valve, I am not saying thats the problem, but if a good on site mechanic has diagnosed it, it could be.

Your right around the time of no egr. The egr should be left of the distributor. Should have a tube going into the rear of the manifold, from the pass. Side exhaust manifold. 2000's don't have them either. If you do you can un-hook the vaccum line to the EGR with engine warm and running, put a piece off vaccum line on it and ready for this suck on the hose ( sounds bad but it works, if you don't have a hand held vaccum pump) the engine should stall or the idle should get rough. But I'm pretty sure you don't have an EGR. If you don't I would snoop around some other sites! Try www. Dodgetalk (2nd generation rams) they are good people and it's FREE! PS have you changed you cap and rotor 80k it's well over due! IMHO
