We changed the oil, repaired a leek in the fuel line and replaced the fuel filter in our old 80" Dodge Mirada. Before we changed this stuff, everything was running fine enough. After finishing up my husband put some Lucas fuel system cleaner in the gas tank, like we have a thousand times before, only this time the tank was almost empty. Upon starting the car for the first time, it shuddered and if you took your foot off the gas she wanted to die. We forced her to the gas station two blocks away and filled her up. We thought that with the new filter maybe she needed the fuel richness adjusted, didn't fix the problem. She started spewing black smoke and you had to keep your foot on the accelerator to run her smooth. Once she is going she dose so just fine. Is this because of running the car on an almost empty tank with the cleaner in it? Will it pass once the cleaner works it's way out? Or is this another problem caused by the cleaner on an empty tank? We also checked to make sure that all the plug wires were connected.
