The motor seems to run fine, but when I put it in gear the motor dies. I have adjusted the idle, but the only way to fix it is to set it at a rediculously high idle. Any ideas?

I'm hoping this is an automatic.
Does the vehicle jump when you put it in gear and then the engine dies?

Yes, it is an automatic transmission. Th only time the vehicle jerks is when I have the idle up real high. The motor also seems to strain a little when I push on the brakes (power assist).

Might have a vacuum leak, have you checked for cracked, leaking lines?

I did find the hose disconnected, but I have not done a complete inspection. I will do that today and keep you posted. I really appreciate your help.
