my check engine light came on then gas gage failed as well as the digital gas gage

What I recommend is to have the computer scanned for codes. Since the check enging light is on, there should be a code. Many nationally recognized parts stores will scan for free.

I'll be honeds. At this point, I question if the two are related, but lets see what the scan finds.
