Hello,

Last fall I replaced the heater motor in my old 1992 F-150. The motor cost me $60 at Parts Source, and it took about half an hour. How gratifying to do it myself! In that case, the motor had failed completely.

Ironically, I have a heater problem in my much newer, nicer 2003 Dakota. The heater pumps out plenty of hot air, but only works when the fan is turned up to the highest setting. I just had the truck in two weeks ago for some warranty work, and they said the resistor had to be replaced as well.

My question is how difficult is it to replace the heater motor in an '03 Dakota? Is it a similar procedure? Is it worth the hassle, or should I take it to the dealer again? I don't really want to pay hundreds of dollars if I can avoid it.
