Truck engine dies when 4 wheel engaged

Hi:
There are several vacuum lines that operate the 4wd. You need to check them. Most likely there is a major leak. Have someone put the truck in 4wd while you listen for a hissing from the under side of the truck. Also, there are 4wd vacuum lines on the passanger side near the back of the engine. Make sure they are ok and the hard (small) plastic lines that go into the stardard rubber hoses are not melted from heat or cracked.

One question, if you keep your foot on the gas, can you keep it running?

Hi Again:

Listen, there is nothing electrical that can shut the engine down when you go to 4wd. It has to be vacuum related, or the linkage it hitting someting. Check for those things and let me know what you find.
