I replaced the transmission with a used model from a 93 Dakota w/88k miles. While removing my transmission, we broke the Camshaft positioning sensor. Bought a new one and installed while putting in the new (used) tranny. We made some minor adjustments to the detente cable for a more consistent shift pattern.
Went for a drive the next day, and after approx. 7 miles, the engine started acting like it was starving for fuel and stalled out. Tried direct fuel to carburetor – didn’t have any effect. After 30-45 minutes, the truck started and drove the remainder of the way home.
Got multiple codes from the vehicle - changed out fuel filter, distributor cap, rotor, coil and the distributor.
Still have the same problem. The vehicle starts and idles like a champ (even 30 minutes), but as soon as I drive it, I can go only about 7 miles before the same issues of a stall out.
Is there a way to diagnose the cam shaft position sensor, without paying the dealer's diagnostic fee?
Should I just replace the sensor and try and get reimbursed for the duplicate part.
Someone even suggested the MAP sensor, others have pointed at the PCM.
