2006 Dodge Caravan 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic
I was reading a posted problem a fellow had with a 96 Caravan/Voyager. Transmission wouldn't shift past second gear. Response from a Tech was that it was in Limp-In-Mode. Possibly the Input or Output Sensor.
Excelent advice. Great picture of the locations on the transmission. Wish I had written down the Technitions name, he deserves a pat on the back.
What I found on my vehicle with the same problem.
Speedometer started swinging from hiway speed of 60 to 30 and back to 60, then 60-0-60. At trip end I parked but when on the go again it would shift to 2nd gear only. I have quite a bit of mechanical experience (60 years) but the electrically controlled automatic transmissions are mew to me. After reading the Techs great reply I ordered the two sensors. $16 input and $17 output at NAPA. Four hours trying to get to the input sensor from behind the radiator, up from behind the bumper, or thru the left wheel well left me fustrated and scratched and scarred. I did manage to touch the back end of the sensor with my finger tip.
Next day the battery and box were removed and the playing field leveled by removing the radiator hose from the back of the engine and tying the wire bundles back out of the way. Clip securing the plug to the sensor was released with a LONG screwdriver and the sensor removed using a 1" standard socket with reducer and a 3/8 u-joint and 3 inch extension. Output was readily accessable thru the left wheel well opening.
Vehicle now drives like new.
Thanks for your great post.
Just thought I would pass along the info on how to accomplish an impossible problem.
